Welcome to the new UC Master Gardener ‘Step by Step Garden Design’ Site.

This link is designed to be the ‘go to’ place for research-based garden design information.

The UC Master Gardeners are not garden designers.  Our mission is to extend research-based knowledge on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices to the residents of California.  However, we are often asked questions that are related to garden design so this link was created to help facilitate answering those questions.

We have provided a list of ‘Significant Points’ to be considered and explored prior to beginning any garden design project.  Accompanying these significant points we have gathered a plethora of research based garden design related information and links. Using this information you will become more informed about garden design basics and thus be better prepared either to take on a DIY project, hire a landscape professional or use a combination of both options.

We hold events based on the various aspects of garden design each year.  Check our events calendar for the dates of those events.

Happy Gardening from all of us at UC Master Gardeners of Napa County.
