UC Master Gardeners of Napa County and the University Of California Cooperative Extension present: Workshops for the Home Gardener  

Workshops will provide University based information to the home gardener. Come to one or all!

Learn how to freeze, dehydrate and can a variety of citrus products through multiple live demonstrations, followed by suggestions on how to incorporate preserved citrus in your meals.

ROSE PRUNING - NAPA

Join the experienced UC Master Gardener Rose Team at this popular forum where they answer your questions about basic rose pruning.  Master Gardeners will cover the fundamentals using UC research-based information.  Topics will include rose types, how and when to prune, what tools to use and tool care, safety, and sanitation.  Come with your questions.

STEP-BY-STEP GARDEN DESIGN - NAPA
Saturday, February 29, 2020, 9:30-11:30 am

Good garden design needs planning.  Bring a drawing of your garden design project and UC Master Gardeners will get you started.  We will review basic design principles and provide some hands-on instruction on creating a garden design as well as provide research-based informational links for additional material.  Participants are encouraged to bring a drawing of a desired garden design project for their own landscape to work on during the workshop and an electronic device for accessing the internet.

SUSTAINABLE VEGETABLE GARDENING - NAPA
4 sessions - Sundays, February 23, March 1, March 8, March 15, 2-4 pm
Napa County Master Gardenrs are pleased a present a series on growing vegetables.  Class will meet on 4 consecutive Sunday afternoons.

This series stresses sustainable gardening practices such as mulching, efficient watering methods, on-site composting, integrated pest management, and use of organic fertilizers and soil amendments.

Topics include: soil preparation, amendments, and fertilizers; irrigation methods and systems; working with both seeds and seedlings, cultural requirements of specific warm and cool season crops and varieties that do well in our area; and how to identify and manage common pests; weeds and diseases of vegetable crops in Napa County.

SPRING AND SUMMER VEGETABLES - YOUNTVILLE
Sunday, March 8, 2020, 1-3 pm

Do you want nutritious, easy to grow and utterly fresh food from your garden this spring and summer?  UC Master Gardeners of Napa County will help home gardeners learn what the garden needs to successfully produce spring and summer vegetables from seeds and plant starts.  In addition to growing basics and hands on activities, this program includes watering, fertilizing, and harvesting tips, with a dash of UC IPM for pest and disease control. The delight of growing your own groceries is matched only by savoring them at harvest.
