Workshops will provide University based information to the home gardener. Come to one or all!

SUCCULENTS CELEBRATION!

Find out why succulents -- these alien-looking little creatures -- have become the trendiest members of the plant kingdom. UC Master Gardeners will demonstrate the right soils, watering and care, propagation techniques and the secrets of succulent design. Revel in these crowd-pleasing plants with their mesmerizing shapes, vivid colors, and crafty versatility that are happy indoors and out. And, take home samples of these super low maintenance plants that are perfect for our busy lives.

COOL SEASON VEGETABLES: NOW IS THE TIME TO PLAN AND START

Create your own garden-to-table movement by growing vegetables that thrive in colder weather! From familiar lettuces to exotic Asian greens, from carrots to sugar snap peas, discover a multitude of choices for fall, winter, and early spring dining.  This hands-on workshop provides the essential growing tips that will guide home gardeners every step of the way.....from planning and planting, to the harvest and onto the table.

HOME VINEYARD PART 2

Join the UC Master Gardeners home vineyard team upvalley in the Calistoga area at the Canard Vineyard as they share techniques to maintain your new or existing home vineyard. Our workshop will cover fall and winter activities in the vineyard, highlighting sustainable and regenerative farming techniques to improve soil health. We will share conventional and organic farming steps to take during the fall to put you on-track for a successful 2020 growing season.

This workshop will be held outdoors under cover. Please wear clothing and shoes appropriate for walking through the vineyard.

STINKING ROSES AND EDIBLE ALLIUMS: GROW THESE ESSENTIALS FOR YOUR KITCHEN

Onions, garlic, leeks, shallots! These aromatic and essential kitchen vegetables are easy to grow in winter gardens, and the fall is a great time to plant them. Join UC Master Gardeners to learn the basics for growing these edible cousins of amaryllis, as well as suggested varieties for our area and some unusual but useful types. The plants can be used as ornamentals, vegetables, spices and as medicine. Create a plan for growing some type of onion in every season of the year.
