- It is the only palm native to the Western United States and the country's largest native palm
- Grows to 59 feet in height and in ideal conditions up to 82 feet tall
- Longevity is 80 to 250 years
- Hardy down to 18 °F
- Has insignificant flowers with small fruit which the wildlife enjoy
