January 2015: Saving and Sowing Seed to Sustain School Gardens

The School Garden Task Force held an educator workshop, Saving and Sowing Seed to Sustain School Gardens, at Connolly Ranch in Napa. This workshop brought together over 20 school garden educators, volunteers, or community members to explore the following questions:

  • What kinds of seeds can be saved?
  • How should saved seed be stored?
  • What are the best sowing methods for different kinds of seeds?
  • What time of year do different plants need to be sown indoors?
  • What are the advantages of greenhouses for starting seeds?

If you missed this great workshop, find information here, or download the  Seed Saving & Sowing Lesson Resource List that was shared with educators to take back to their sites and work with their students.
